Golem buys 'Bertsolari' for The country

MADRID -- The spanish language arthouse distrib Golem Distribucion has had theatrical and home theatre privileges to docu-feature "Bertsolari," which world preems Saturday in the San Sebastian Film Festival. Screening from competition in fest's Official Section, docu activates the Basque dental poetry tradition. Asier Altuna, co-champion from the San Sebastian youth award in 2005 for "Aupa Etxebeste!," directs "Bertsolari," a co-production between Txintxua Films and Basque pubcaster ETB. Golem aims release a "Bertsolari" March. 14 in The spanish language theaters. Docu may be the latest inside a flurry of surprise pick-ups, inked throughout the final several weeks through the Pamplona-based exhib-distributor. Japanese helmer Hirokazu Kore-eda's drama "If Only," which Golem pre-purchased from Wild Bunch, makes its European premiere in San Sebastian's Official Section. Offered by Match Factory, Finnish helmer Aki Kaurismaki's French-language comedy "Le Havre," a contest standout at Cannes, screens within the Zabaltegi-Pearls section. Acquired from Reminder Films, Asghar Farhadi's "Nader and Simin: A Separation" -- champion from the Berlinale's Golden Bear -- also screens at Zabaltegi-Pearls. Playing in San Sebastian's Horizontes Latinos sidebar, Chilean Cristian Jimenez's sophomore pic "Bonsai," was bought by Golem after it required the primary award at March's Films happening in Toulouse. A lot of Golem's movie purchases are pre-buys. "Our editorial line causes us to be stay loyal to established auteurs, following very carefully their new productions before they're completed," stated Golem co-founder Josetxo Moreno.
